HUNTING in BOTSWANA

Located in the heart of southern Africa, Botswana is the size of France, with a population of 1,4 million people, it is a model of prosperity and stability on the continent.  Botswana is one of the very few multi-party democracies on the continent. Visitors will find a gracious and warm welcome.

Botswana is one of the great safari nations.  It is politically stable and secure, and has been spared the exploitation and turmoil found in other parts of Africa.  Botswana has set aside more of its land for National Parks and Game Reserves than any other country in Africa.  Botswana is renowned for its abundance and variety of wildlife, and for its wide open and sparsely populated countryside.

The country’s more than 100,000 elephant’s alone make up the largest free – roaming herds in the world.

The dominant geological feature in Botswana is the Kalahari Desert, covering roughly two – thirds of the country.  At the northern edge of this arid expanse lies the Okavango Delta, a magical area where the mighty Okavango River is tamed by the semi – desert, spilling its waters over an area of some 7,000 square miles, then disappearing into thirsty sands to support the most diverse profusion of plant and animal life in Southern Africa – more than 160 mammal species.  Botswana’s bird life is prolific.

HUNTING SEASON

The hunting season runs from the first Tuesday of April through to the third Tuesday of September each year.

Botswana is a malarial area and precautions must be taken through out the year.  We recommend you check with your physician prior to departure for details of health regulations and immunization requirements.  Although the company maintains comprehensive medical boxes, bring any special medication your doctor may think you need.  Tsetse Fly are no longer a problem, as they were irradiated in 2002.

All licenses are required to be purchased at the commencement of the safari as it is more difficult to purchase licenses thereafter. Botswana requires an import permit from the country of final destination for leopard before an export permit can be issued. Each hunting client is requested to bring copies of any CITES permits with them to Botswana.
